The Weekapaug Inn saw quite a treat this past Saturday! If you were outside enjoying the beautiful weather on our deck, you may have spotted the Mayflower II passing by. The ship, a full-scale reproduction of the vessel that carried the Pilgrims to Massachusetts in 1620, was being towed from New Bedford, Massachusetts to her final destination in Mystic, Connecticut, where she arrived late Saturday afternoon.
Staffed with eight crewmembers from Plimoth Plantation’s Maritime Preservation and Operations group, the 106-foot majestic ship began her voyage from Plymouth, Massachusetts on December 1st. She rested for two days in New Bedford due to inclement weather before she arrived in Mystic on December 5th for preservation work at the Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard.
Our telescope captured this photo of the grand ship’s journey.
